Join us for a screening of a selection of works by the Academy Award winning animator, satirist and cartoonist Bruce Petty.
His witty, wry and at times confronting short films present valuable insights into the mechanisms that shape our lives, including; education, sex, finance, globalism, art, media medicine, law and government. His commentary on society still remains modern, cutting and engaging to this day. The screening will feature films including his Academy Award winning film ‘Leisure’, and clips from his ‘Human Contraptions Series’.

This exhibition is all about Melbourne as I see it, memories of certain places, feelings, experiences and observations all of which tell a story.  I am also very passionate about the local music scene and this too is a recurring theme in my work. Blues guitarist, Tabasco Tom Rogerson, formerly with the Swingin' Johnsons of New York, is now resident in Australia and getting back to his roots; folk and blues with no gimmicks as it was in simpler times. Tom’s bluesy finger pickin' style, or "Eclectic Soup" mixed into his original material, is a melting pot of country blues, folk and delta, mixed with a bit of swing.

Spirit Guide Drawing with Carol McConnell

Come to a friendly afternoon of spirit guide drawing with Carol McConnell.
By incorporating meditation and aura soma colour therapy tools to help you get in touch with your inner guides and angels. 
Carol teaches a simple technique of drawing that is easy to follow, is fun and will assist you on your inner journey. 
This workshop is very calming and provides a safe space for healing and you'll be amazed by your creative abilities.
There is no previous drawing experience necessary and all materials are provided. The duration is 3 hours and includes afternoon tea. Please book in early as there is limited space available.

Music Lessons the Fun Way

These 4 classes are created to kick start your Harmonious Melodies regular music lessons.

Classes are run by studio musician and qualified teacher, Nicole Rizio. Nicole applies traditional music techniques to her Piano Accordion, Flute and Violin classes. For those looking for a unique approach to learning Piano, try Nicole’s ‘Simply Music Piano’ lessons. You can learn more about Nicole’s classes at www.harmoniousmelodies.com.au.


Materials will be available to hire or purchase but you will need to provide your own musical instrument.

The music lessons will run at Burrinja’s Studio 6. Classes comprise of a 4 week block of 30min lessons for a total cost of $100* per student. Group classes available, for further details contact Nicole on harmoniousmelodies@hotmail.com or 0417 844 590.

On completion of the 4 classes you can choose to continue your music lessons by booking directly with Harmonious Melodies at the $120 regular rate.

Workshops by Melbourne Ballet Company

Junior Classical Workshop
Saturday 2 August  1pm—2pm
A special junior ballet class in the Melbourne Ballet Company System of Training, Vaganova based, to be given by the MBC Artistic Director or Principal Dancer.
Suitable to ages 6 – 12 Years old with previous ballet experience

Senior Classical Workshop
Saturday 2 August  2.15pm—3.15pm
Local senior dance students from Elementary level and above may join the Melbourne Ballet Company Class onstage in the Burrinja Theatre. The workshop will be led by the Resident Choreographer or a Principal Dancer of Melbourne Ballet Company.
Suitable to ages 13 – 20 Years old with elementary or above experience

Senior Classical on Stage Warm Up
Ten lucky senior classical students will have to opportunity to participate in the on-stage warm up with Melbourne Ballet Company dancers prior to their performance of Infinite Space.
The participants for the warm up will be randomly selected from the senior classical dance students.
Students will be notified the week before the workshop commences.
Suitable to ages 13 – 20 Years old with previous ballet experience.

Mosaic Workshop

Do you want to get creative with crockery?
This workshop of 4 classes will walk you through the creation process step-by-step to create your own small mosaic art piece.
Classes are run by Studio artist and qualified teacher Jessie Yvette Journoud-Ryan.
Most materials and tools used on site are provided, but you will need to provide your own crockery, protective gloves for grouting, an old towel and a hammer.

Cost:  $250 per student comprising of a total of 11hrs of tutored classes.
Most materials are supplied, including a selection of the artist's own tile and crockery collection and a descriptive easy to follow 10 step guide to creating your own mosaic artwork. On completion of the workshop you will have a completed and grouted mosaic, ready to hang up at home.

Smash and Chat

Mosaic One-Off Workshop
A 3 hour window of mosaicing to work on whatever personal project you may have currently brewing. This session provides the opportunity to 'drop in' and get creative on any mosaic project you have started or plan to start, with a group of fellow mosaic enthusiasts.

Cost: $50 per student
Please note that an extra charge of $10 is applicable (and payable on the day) if you need to purchase a prepared (scored and primed) surface to Mosaic.
A selection of the artist's own tile and crockery collection and adhesives will be available.

It's all about GROUT!

Let’s get messy with a grouting session.
Have you been putting off your grouting?
It is finally time to grout those unfinished mosaic projects…
This session is the place to do it with a group of fellow mosaic enthusiasts.
This workshop offered in Burrinja's Art Workshop space serves as a 3 hours window of grouting on a personal mosaic project.

Cost: $50 per student
You MUST provide your own grout, gloves and bring along your completed project, but other basic grouting tools will be available to you.
