New Direct Flights
Two new direct flights between Sapporo’s New Chitose International Airport and Seoul’s Incheon International Airport have been announced. Easter Airlines commenced a twice-weekly service on May 5 (increasing to 4 flights per week from July), and Jin Air will commence a regular service from July 15. These flights will offer a new gateway to Hokkaido for visitors coming from Asia, and will also open up the growing South Korean market to the Hokkaido region.
Message from the Hokkaido Government
The Governor of Hokkaido has released this message to promote reassurance, and to underline that Hokkaido is a safe and beautiful destination to visit in the summer months.
Busy Summer Ahead!
Long-stay bookings are up this year, with several accommodation providers confirming a 20% - 60% increase on 2010 figures. Due to electricity restrictions in southern parts of Japan, and thus limiting the use of air conditioners, the milder, fresh air of Hokkaido is becoming a preferable option for domestic summer holidaymakers. This is fantastic news for local cafes, restaurants and service-related businesses.
