Happy New Year! We are very happy to introduce two new bases. These will allow home users, spas and salons to customize new masks using new actives. We have used these bases to make four new masks which are now on sale for Skin Actives customers who prefer ready to use products. In the coming year we will be adding to our mask line up. Expect to see a new foot mask in the first couple of months of the year.
If you have any questions about formulating your own masks send us a note. If you have formulated a great mask please consider sharing the recipe on our forum!
We are currently working on an anti-ox powder mix, we hope to have this available for preview in February. Hannah has also started work on a serum base for users who want to make up their own serums.
Our shipping charges have gone up again. This time we are going to be unable to absorb them. On the 15th of January our domestic (for US customers) USPS priority mail shipping charge will go up to $6.50. Our first class shipping rate to Canada will also go up to $6.50. Our other international rates will remain the same ($10 for first class, $30 for expedited) but these may also have to go up in the new year.
Our private label program has been very successful in spas and salons around the world. We have finally had the time to create a presentation describing what we can do for business owners who want to sell their own products and be in charge of their skin care lines. Please visit http://skinactives.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=5369477 to download the PDF presentation. All our past newsletters are available on our customer forum.

Looking at my glass ball I can see that there will be….
More nanoparticle delivery systems with fancy names. More vitamin C derivatives (with non fancy names). [Sorry, I’m cheating: I read that two are coming very soon: Ascorbyl-2 glucoside and ethyl ascorbic acid.]
More scare stories about stuff we have been using for decades and have been found to be toxic. More extracts of foreign plants with names suggesting eternal life and cultivated by mystic monks who found out their skin remains soft and heals immediately (like in SciFi TV shows). More products containing thermal waters of countries where the people live to be 120 years but have a skin like a 20 years old! More trademark names making promises the ingredients cannot fulfill and the FDA cannot prosecute.
Great new products from Skin Actives that will deliver what they promise!
New Year’s resolutions we can keep
Take care of your body. This is something I repeat in almost every newsletter but it is still good advice: take care of you (that includes your whole body) before you take care of others (the oxygen mask on the plane idea). You can start with your skin (easy and will make you feel good), but don’t forget to measure blood pressure. Even better, visit your MD for a check-up (I did that and I feel virtuous).
Don’t use yourself as a Guinea pig. Avoid laser unless it is to eliminate unwanted hair (may help or it may scar) and experimental procedures like microneedling. Ask yourself: would you do that to your child?
Organize: throw away old medicines and old creams and stuff you had for ages (look for expiration dates for medicines). Keep on the counter only what you actually use; it will help you remember using those SAS products you want to use every day and will prevent silly mistakes.
Take advantage of what Skin Actives offers you: Many people still equal high prices with good quality. This may be true for good quality bedding but don’t make the mistake of believing that $1,000 will buy you the best skin care. It will not. It will buy a lot of advertising and celebrities endorsements, but not the best actives. We at Skin Actives have the best skin actives, some of them (like several specialty proteins) only available through us.
Bubbles
I have avoided bubble baths for a very long time: my skin is on the dry side, sensitive and prone to eczema. Most (all) bubble bath liquids are full of sodium dodecyl (lauryl) sulfate, the surfactant used to provoke irritation in skin tests! They usually also come with strong fragrances, which irritate my lungs (yes, I have asthma problems too).
Here is the solution for safe and happy bubble baths! It is was found by my grandson, who also has problems with dry skin, eczema and asthma (my genes, my fault): our marine shampoo, with soothing sea kelp ultramarine and mild surfactants, and no fragrances (unless you add your own, look at our fragrance kit).
Enjoy the shampoo, the bubbles and the picture!

SAS Acne Control Mask is a peel-off mask, designed to help control acne and oil, and because of its “peel off” action it will work like a Biore strip for the whole face! Contains nobiletin, green tea EGCG and niacinamide for oil control and Coleus forskohlii essential oil for its anti-acne bacteria action. For even better results, apply first the alpha/beta exfoliator. Rinse well, pat dry and apply acne control mask. After a few minutes, peel the mask (start from an edge, roll it with your fingers) and your skin will feel lovely. Our great “let’s make collagen” serum will complete the process towards smaller pores and smoother skin. http://www.skinactives.com/Acne-Control-Mask.html
SAS Anti-Aging Mask, an emollient treatment to nurture the skin with hyaluronic acid, good fatty acids and phospholipids. Antioxidants like glutathione, prevent aging including Astragalus extract, Resveratrol, Glutathione, and Vitamin C (as ascorbyl palmitate). And, just for fun (and a delightful pink tint plus delicious scent), it also includes strawberry fruit powder and French Pink Clay. http://www.skinactives.com/Anti-Aging-Mask.html
SAS Exfoliating Mask was designed to exfoliate in each step of the process, beginning with application. We included Walnut Shells and Ivory Clay for a texture-based exfoliation as you rub it on. Then, we included great tropical fruit extracts, with the natural proteases, enzymes that will break down proteins in the most external layers of the epidermis during the drying process. The smell of papaya, pineapple and kiwi is fantastic! Sorry, you can’t eat the mask, although you can have a smoothie while you wait for the mask to dry. http://www.skinactives.com/Exfoliating-Mask.html
SAS Moisturizing Mask was created as a great moisturizing product that would be suitable for everyone. Mixed with oat bran and cucumber Peel extract for their soothing properties, this mask also contains niacinamide, alpha lipoic acid, and coconut endosperm to give your skin the nutrients it craves. Yeast beta glucan will enhance the immune response of your skin and will leave a nice tight feeling. http://www.skinactives.com/Moisturizing-Mask.html
I got a tattoo for Thanksgiving this year (it was cheaper than flying home) and used Troll Skin Regeneration Cream throughout the healing process
I believe the healing was complete by day 12, and I just included day 25 as a follow-up. I liked using the cream, suffered no ill effects, and my tattoo artist inspected it regularly and said I took very good care of it.
I wish I could compare the healing process to previous tattoos, but this was my first and I know I'll use it for future artwork. Sadly, I can never do the kind of comparison that you might find useful. Sorry about that! But thank you for making another fine product; I'm happy to recommend it because it has far superior ingredients to the many plain lotions that were recommended to me (and there were many - a different one by every person I spoke with).
