CONTEMPORARY REALISM: Invitational

Opening Party: Friday, September 30, 2011 6-8PM

A year in the planning, this show brings together an extraordinary body of work featuring new paintings by 23 of the finest realist painters in the United States and Canada.

Leaving the heyday of 20th century modernism behind, a time when pushing art to its limits was more important than actual skill, there is an ongoing broad return by artists across the globe to discipline and technique. The resulting art from this movement, while representational, is far from traditional. The level of accomplishment by the proponents has been refined to the highest level, inspired by the greatest artists of the past. Many Contemporary Realists actually began as trained abstract painters, having come through an educational system dominated by professors and theorists dismissive of representational painting.

Miller Gallery is pleased to bring this impressive group of living contemporary realists to Cincinnati for this important exhibit. Included in the show are Anthony Ackrill, John Agnew, Daud Akhriev, Helen Crispino, Donald Dahlke, Isabelle du Toit,  Michael Fitts, Daniel E. Greene, Karen Hollingsworth, Timothy Jahn, Rob Jefferson, Anne-Marie Kornachuk, Otto Lange, Ron Monsma, Jonathan Queen, Pamela Sienna, Terry Strickland, Chris Thomas, Glennray Tutor, Leah Waichulis, Eric Wert, Dennis Wojtkiewicz, and Vic Vicini.

The show will go online Thursday. To preview the show by appointment, please call the gallery at 513.871.4420.
Contemporary Realism: Invitational continues through October 18, 2011

Miller Gallery, established in 1960, is Cincinnati's oldest gallery. Our mission is to present and support the visual arts in the Midwest and on-line globally, through exhibitions and live artist demonstrations. Our objectives are to foster an awareness and appreciation of the visual arts among area residents, and to support the development of established and emerging artists through museum placements, and by presenting their work to the largest possible audience.

One of the most sought after exhibition venues in the region, Miller Gallery is acclaimed for its long-standing reputation of quality and integrity among artists, museums, and collectors. The eclectic mix of emerging and established artists work is constantly changing. Located in the heart of Cincinnati's historic Hyde Park Square, with 2000 square feet of exhibition space, Miller serves as a staging ground for the most intriguing visual art by local, national and internationally-recognized artists working in all media. Gallery visitors can see abstract work, traditional and contemporary realism, as well as three-dimensional art in many genres by the gallery's juried stable of remarkable artists.
