Hi Morag,

Welcome to the 8th edition of “The Piper”, our regular update from the Highlander Motor Inn.

Can you believe that almost half the year has gone – where did the first six months go to?

Here at the Highlander we had a great Easter, with our self-catering Apartments proving very popular over this four day period.  The Apartments obviously allow guests to bring their own food and do their own cooking which can help reduce one of the more expensive aspects of living away from home. With school holidays being tacked onto the Easter break this year, we found that families tended to book out the Apartments for longer.

Unlike previous years, the weather was near perfect and this seemed to put a smile on everyone’s face. The organizers of Easterfest were extremely happy with their numbers, with most stall holders doing a bumper trade. The annual Toowoomba Easter Tennis Carnival was also a great success, with the players revelling in the fine conditions. We had some players staying with us who managed to get as far as the semis, but dipped out in the final round

The next big event on our calendar is Farm Fest (5th– 7thJune), and with the country from Toowoomba, out as far as Roma and beyond looking a picture, it is to be hoped that the Exhibitors will do well this year. Already our bookings are very strong for this event, so if you haven’t booked your accommodation with us yet, we would suggest a quick phone call – 4638 4955.

Also in June, (20thand 21st) is the Surat Basin Energy and Mining Expo. This is only its second year in Toowoomba – although such expos have been held in a number of mining areas for many years – and with all the mining activity ramping up to the west of us, the Expo can only continue to grow.

Since our last Newsletter, the motel signage has been substantially changed, both the James Street and West Street signs. We have attempted to make the whole look cleaner and simpler – what is they say: “less is more”? The former Highland Fling restaurant site is now operating as Offices, and therefore reference on the previous signage to that restaurant was obsolete. One added advantage to our new sign is that we no longer have to go outside in all sorts of weather (often raining) to change the “Vacancy”, “No Vacancy” sign. We simply have to press a button within the Office and the new neon sign changes to reflect the particular circumstances - obviously we enjoy putting that “No” in front of the Vacancy sign, which thanks to your continued support, we have been doing quite a bit lately.

Well, that’s it from us for the moment – until next time.

Regards
The Highlander Team
