At a dinner in the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral last night the London Design Medal was awarded to Ron Arad. 

Accepting the award, the great Tel Aviv-born designer said, "Thank you London – I couldn't imagine doing whatever I'm doing anywhere else in the world".

In another moving moment the London Design Festival presented a Lifetime Achievement Award to Vidal Sassoon, inspirational entrepreneur and pioneer of the bob cut, who spoke of his origins as a 14-year-old apprentice barber in East London.

Today much of the Festival's focus moves to the Design Districts. Keep an eye out for late openings and other special events in The Shoreditch Design Triangle and the Clerkenwell Design District.

Bernhardt Design presents the international launch of Workshop

Brands Limited / 20 - 23 September

Designers Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk join forces in the studio for Bernhardt Design with a collection titled Workshop, which makes its international debut at the London Design Festival. Leading the new generation of Dutch designers, much of Kiki’s and Joost’s work is based on the traditions of the workshop. Van Eijk and van Bleiswijk are also giving us tomorrow's Breakfast Talk with Surface magazine. More

African & African-Caribbean Design Diaspora Festival 2011
