Put Some Green in Your Pockets and ONE's As Well
If you’ve followed Ozarks New Energy (ONE) through the years, you know we’ve held regional energy conferences in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Two years ago we began offering our Energy Cafes as a means of sharing free information about energy alternatives. We also started this e-newsletter, ONE Connection, that links to our blog and includes useful information about energy technology advancements and tips for conserving energy.
We hope the information you've received through past conferences, Energy Cafes and ONE Connection ultimately saves you money by reducing your energy expenditures.
That's putting some green in your pocket.
Now we’re developing a new website with an exciting new feature: One Spotlight. Spotlight will showcase individuals, organizations, businesses and government and educational entities that have made energy improvements large and small.
A Spotlight could be as simple as a homeowner adding insulation to the attic or as complex as building an off-grid house. These Spotlights also will name and link to the vendors, suppliers and contractors who helped with the projects. We hope that will lead to more business for these folks and improve our local economy. Maybe we can make a dent in the annual $1.5 billion that leaves our area each year for fossil fuel-dependent energy.
That’s according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. And if you follow the news, you know that the rate of greenhouse gas emissions is accelerating, surpassing climatologists' worst-case scenarios. Climate change is real, and we are all going to have to adapt to a hotter world with more weather extremes. ONE wants to lead the charge for change in the Ozarks by helping inform consumers about their energy choices, supporting energy legislation that promotes renewables and energy efficiency and showcasing energy success stories.
We need your help to do it.
Starting with financial support. Building the new website and developing the Spotlights take time and money. Our goal is to raise $6,000 to finish the site and develop a gallery of Spotlights by next spring. Then, instead of a ONE 4 conference in April, we plan to try something new. Perhaps it will be an event under a tent, with food, drink, entertainment, a speaker, exhibits and demos. Maybe it will be an energy expo in which we partner with other organizations to host a new energy trade show with breakout sessions and demos. Perhaps it will take another format. We welcome your suggestions at 417-581-0745 or info@ozarksnewenergy.org.
Regardless of the shape of the spring event, we hope you’ll help jump start our efforts by adding Ozarks New Energy to your year-end giving or making a gift in the new year. Our 501(3)c status means your gift will be tax deductible. Here are suggested gift levels to support ONE's energy education efforts: $25 $35 $50 $75 $100
To make a gift, there are two options. One is to write a check payable to Ozarks New Energy and mail it with your name, full address, phone number and e-mail address to:
Ozarks New Energy
P.O. Box 3136
Springfield, MO 65808-3136
Or, make a donation online using PayPal. Here's a link to our Give to One page that covers both options.
Thank you for past and future support of ONE. We’re a small band of volunteers convinced that our Ozarks region can free itself of dependence on fossil fuels by embracing new energy technologies and renewable resources. You, our supporters, can help us take this message to the larger public and excite, educate and energize them to turn on to the power of new energy.
Submit a ONE Spotlight
You also can help us celebrate local energy improvements by submitting information for a ONE Spotlight. We have 11 types in both a commercial/industry/office category and a residential/individual category:
-
Solar - photovoltaic, solar thermal, solar hot water, passive solar, other solar applications
-
Wind - turbine, vertical axis
-
Product design - energy-saving design, use of recycled or energy-saving materials, local vs. transported materials
-
Architectural, engineering and landscaping design - designs that save energy
-
Waste heat recovery - reuse of waste heat to reduce total energy usage
-
Biomass - use of pellet stove and wood-burning technologies, reusing waste biomass, methane conversion, other
-
Energy efficiency - use of efficient appliances, doors and windows, insulation, weatherizing, daylighting and other lighting improvements, general tightening of building envelope
-
Geothermal - applications using ground source heat pumps or hybrid systems
-
Hydro - small hydro applications that generate electricity or reduce the amount of energy needed to deliver water
-
Transportation - use of electric cars, bicycles, CNG, fleet replacement/upgrades such as use of hybrids, more fuel-efficient gasoline and diesel vehicles, diesel conversions
-
Education - courses, workshops and programs to educate constituencies about alternative/renewable energy, energy efficiency, etc
To submit information for a ONE Spotlight, follow this link to our Spotlight page. You'll find a convenient online form and access to our first two ONE Spotlights: Jim Evans and Drury University.
We look forward to celebrating your energy improvements!
