A man was sitting on his porch one afternoon ... and noticed a city works truck as it pulled over onto the shoulder of the road in front of his house. A workman got out, proceeded to get a shovel out of the back of the truck and started to dig a sizable hole in the ditch. Once the hole was dug, the worker put the shovel away and got back into the vehicle.
A few minutes later, another occupant of the truck got out, took the shovel off the back of the truck, proceeded to fill up the hole, tamped the dirt down good, and got back into the truck. Then they drove forward on the shoulder a few meters, and repeated the process – digging, waiting, refilling.
After a half-dozen repetitions, the curious onlooker sauntered over to them and asked, “What are you doing?”
”We are on a city beautification project,” the driver said. “And the guy who plants the trees is home sick today.”
Cute story but ... a great truth for any organization. Our church needs YOU. You have spiritual gifts and abilities that no one else has. Scripture teaches that the church is a body, with many parts and functions. Without you and your involvement in the life of our church, something is missing.
Hope to see you out this weekend for morning service! (No evening service this week due to the holiday weekend.) And don’t forget Launch Sunday is rapidly approaching ... Sunday, Sept 12 with a pancake breakfast at 9:00 am, and The Panic Squad taking over the 10:00 am morning service. There are free tickets available to give out so be sure to invite a friend or four, and join us on the 12th!
God bless, and have a safe & enjoyable long weekend.
