Thoughts on BPM, SOA, and cool emerging technologiesIssue #3, April 2010
Meet Avio's Mr. BPM!
Do you know Dan Atwood? If you've been around BPM for any length of time, the probability that you have run across Dan is extremely high. Dan has been involved with BPM seemingly since before it was called BPM. Dan was the first hire in the United States when Fuego entered the U.S. market with Fuego BPM back in 1999 and still works with the product (now Oracle BPM) today. During his tenure at Fuego, Dan held a variety of positions, but most notably he was the Fuego Trainer. There have literally been thousands of people who have gone through Dan’s training and it seems he still stays in touch with most of them today. After Fuego was acquired by BEA Systems, Dan moved into a sales role and was involved in demonstrating BPM to an untold number of clients and prospects. If BEA’s Aqualogic BPM was a part of a sales cycle, chances are that Dan was involved in helping out. Dan often fielded calls from frantic teams trying to make POCs work and Dan always had the “how to” answer they needed. Dan then made the move to Oracle after the BEA acquisition and continued to provide product expertise to various sales teams. Because Dan is really a trainer at heart, even today Dan continues to educate and provide ad-hoc support to a huge community of internal and external people. Do you know who the number one contributor is on the Oracle Technology Forum BPM group? You guessed it, Dan Atwood! He has answered 1600 more questions on OTN than the second rated person has.
We are thrilled to have Dan as part of our team at Avio. Dan’s blog varies in topics and can range from How to Run a POC to OBPM specific coding best practices. You can keep up to date with Dan’s blog online at http://www.avioconsulting.com/blogs/datwood or via his RSS feed.
We encourage you to leverage Dan's vast expertise in BPM by submitting your BPM related questions to newsletter@avioconsulting.com. We are introducing an "Ask the Expert" section next month where we wiill answer some of the submitted questions.
Spend the Summer With Us!
In conjuction with Oracle, Avio is hosting a summer BPM webinar series. We are in the final stages of finalizing logistics, but expect a webinar in May, June, July, and August. We have some interesting and thought provoking topics lined up. Here is a sneak preview of some of the topics planned:
Where's The Love? (Why can't IT and Business just get along?)
Who's at the Wheel? (Aligning SOA and BPM strategies)
Roger, Roger. What's your vector, Victor? (Bridging the communication divide between Business and IT)
And because we know you're really interested in hearing how real customers use BPM, each webinar will feature a customer presenting their BPM use-case scenario.
Recent Blog Posts
There are a number of ways in which you can keep up to date on the blogs. If you are interested in all aspects of BPM, there is an RSS feed which will show all blog posts which are classified as BPM. However, if you find the posts of a particular blogger of interest, there is an RSS feed for each individual blogger as well. This month we profiled Dan Atwood and plan to profile a different blogger each month to help you determine who may be of most interest to you.
