"Endless summer” GicleeIn honor of artist Robert Wood, I decided to paint my current view of Woods Cove at sunset. “When I was six years old, my family had a large framed print of a seascape by Robert Wood, a well known artist from Laguna Beach, hanging over our couch in our living room. The painting depicted an area of Laguna Beach that eventually becamed named “Woods Cove,” after the artist. Wood died in the 1960s, but he was part of what inspired me to move to Laguna, where I’ve now lived and painted for many years. But the story doesn’t end there. Ten years ago, I was in a gallery and found the original version of the print that used to hang in my childhood home. I bought it on the spot. Now, in honor of Robert Wood, I decided to paint my current view of Woods Cove at sunset. This new painting, ‘Endless Summer,’ shares the warmth of Laguna’s famed beach in the vibrant warm colors that have inspired people here for generations. I hope you enjoy my Endless Summer.”
Hermosa Beach WinsWyland Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation Hermosa Beach, led by Mayor Peter Tucker, has won the title of Southern California’s greenest city for Earth Month. Hermosa Beach fended off strong challenges from Redondo Beach, Gardena, Long Beach, Villa Park, Agoura Hills, Torrance and Monrovia to claim the title after a 30-day competition among Southern California mayors to see whose city could be the most water wise for the month of April. As part of the competition, residents throughout southern California made a series of online commitments on behalf of their city at mywaterpledge.com to save water, energy, and reduce pollution over a one-year period. As the city with the highest percentage of residents to make pledges, residents who participated will receive prizes ranging from tickets to an Angels Game to Park Hopper Passes to Disneyland to reduced price admission to the Aquarium of the Pacific. Mayors from more than 20 cities, representing over 1.5 million people, actively participated in the challenge, which was developed by famed artist and conservationist Wyland. The challenge was part of the Earth Month Heroes Campaign to spotlight environmental heroes in our community and to encourage simple changes that residents can make to use water more efficiently. Participating Mayors such as Joe Carchio of Huntington Beach, Frank Scotto of Torrance, Bob Foster of Long Beach, Paul K. Tanaka of Gardena, Dave Leckness of Mission Viejo, and Laura Friedman of Glendale, all launched inter-city public awareness campaigns to promote local interest and participation in the challenge.
