Holy Spirit of Jesus, as our students enter a new semester, we thank you for the learning that happened during the first semester. We pray that your wisdom would enlighten us our minds, encourage our actions, and guide our words. We ask for your blessing on BSM and all of its community during this second half of the school year. Watch over us and be our guide. Jesus, you studied sufficiently hard at school that you earned the title of Rabbi, you apprenticed under your Father and earned the title of Carpenter, you have truly walked in our shoes. Accept our efforts, at study and work, as an offering of thanksgiving for the gift that we have to be a part of the BSM community. Bless our students as they close another semester, bless our parents as we encourage them, bless us these cold winter days. Heavenly Father, we are awed by the idea of God coming to earth in the form of man to dwell among us. Thank you for desiring to be known so sincerely that you would take our form to demonstrate how deep is your love. As we look back on 2010 show us how you walked with us through the joys and trials of this year. New News:
Junior High Activities Meeting
It’s not too late to join us at our next Junior High Activities Meeting! We’ll talk about our upcoming spring events and listen to Dr. Steven Kahn speak about parenting our junior high kids. Come join the group on Wednesday, April 13, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Library Conference Room. If you have any questions contact Laura Alexander lauracalexander@hotmail.com or Rose Guidinger Guidinger@mchsi.com.
RKVC Update
The Red Knight Volunteer Corps (RKVC) is in full swing this spring with several great service opportunities including serving meals to the homeless at Loaves and Fishes, transporting and serving residents at a Seder meal at Sholom Community Alliance, assisting athletes with special needs at St. Therese’s adaptive basketball, and serving at the Risen Christ gala. Also, the Lundstrum Center for the Performing Arts has invited BSM alumni and parents to join RKVC members in serving at their gala in Minneapolis on Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15. For information about all of these opportunities, please visit the RKVC service opportunities at www.BSMschool.org/RKVCservice or contact RKVC facilitator Zach Zeckser at zzeckser@BSMschool.org.
Spirit Shop Update
Get ready for spring! Be equipped to handle those "April showers" with a family-sized umbrella from the Spirit Shop. Come in and shop every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have extended hours and will be open Thursday, April 7, during New Family Reception from 7-9:00 p.m., and after the 8:50 a.m. Lenten Reconciliation Service on Thursday, April 14. Or, order online (www.BSMschool.org/SpiritShop) and have your student bring it home.
April ordering days for letter jackets are Tuesday and Wednesday, April 26-27. The Letter jacket rep will be in the commons/cafeteria to take orders and measurements from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on those days.
Reminders:
College Fair
The BSM College Fair will be held Tuesday, April 12, from 7-9 p.m. Attendance is mandatory for juniors. Sophomores are encouraged to attend, and parents are definitely welcome! Check out more information and a listing of the colleges and universities that will be in attendance.
Tuition Balances for Seniors
Attention senior parents: Have you received a tuition invoice recently? If yes, please remit payment to the finance office. Students with a balance due will not receive a cap and gown at graduation practice, so please take care of any outstanding balances as soon as possible. If you have questions, please call Shané Sisco at 952-767-3121.
Presentation at Beth El Synagogue
Prolific author and scientist Deepak Chopra will be speaking at our neighboring Beth El Synagogue, on Monday, April 11, at 7 p.m. Chopra will discuss how "Healing, Transformation and Higher Consciousness" can enhance our collective commitment to global health, awareness, love and peace. As founder and chairman of the Chopra Foundation and founder and co-chairman of the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, Chopra is acknowledged as one of the world's greatest leaders in the field of mind body medicine and continues to transform our understanding of the meaning of health. Presented as part of Beth El's "Inspiring Minds" Speaker Series, this event is a wonderful opportunity for the BSM community. Tickets are available at www.bethelsynagogue.org/vip-deepak.
Self Defense Classes
There is still space available for the self defense class for the boys. The boys' class will be held Monday, April 18, from 7-9 p.m., in the library. The cost is $20 per person. Because of the sensitivity of the subject matter, the class is open to students in 9th-12th grades only. Any child participating must be accompanied by a parent/adult; it is suggested that the adult be of the same gender as the child. This class is also open to junior high parents. Go to www.BSMschool.org/self-defense for more information or click here to register. The self defense class is an excellent follow up to the presentation on personal safety that the seniors will hear on April 6. Jan Jenkins, author of the book "Footprints of Courage," shares her personal story of the death of her college age son and the lessons learned that can help other young people.
The self defense class for the girls is full. Because of the tremendous interest in this class, the Parent Association will schedule more sessions during the 2011-2012 school year.

If you would prefer, you can also nominate using the online form. This is available on the BSM website on the Parents' Choice page in the Parents section. If you have any questions, please contact Caron Dwyer at clrdwyer@comcast.net or Kim Horton at tajalu@comcast.net.

Summer Pre-College Programs for High School Students
Students who are currently in grades 9-11 are eligible to participate in summer learning experiences at various colleges and universities. These programs range from one week to seven weeks, with varying costs and curriculum. One of the many benefits of participating in a pre-college summer program is the opportunity to live on a college campus and take courses, and meet students from around the U.S. In the past few years, BSM students have participated in pre-college summer programs at several colleges, including University of Notre Dame, The George Washington University, Carleton College, Harvard University, and Washington University in St. Louis. Information and/or applications are available in the BSM College and Career Center or on the sponsoring college’s website. In addition, general information and web links for numerous colleges offering summer opportunities can be found in the “Guidance/College and Career” section of the BSM website, by clicking on “summer opportunities" (http://www.bsmschool.org/academics/guidance-college-and-career/summer-opportunities/).
