January 30 – Champagne Social at the FNP
The Frederick News-Post invites members of the business community to a special Champagne Social celebrating the return of our Monday edition. After almost three years, the Monday paper returns on February 6. Attend the preview celebration on January 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 351 Ballenger Center Dr., Frederick.
February 3 – Give Kids a Smile
Pediatric Dental Center of Frederick will be providing free cleanings, oral health checks, and treatment of cavity-related pain for kids ages 6 months to 18 years old. Children will also be educated on proper dental hygiene and nutrition. The event is first come, first serve, and appointments aren’t necessary between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 7360 Guilford Drive, Suite 102, Frederick.
February 5 – Diane Ackerman visits Frederick
In partnership with Frederick Reads and the Weinberg Center for the Arts, the C. Burr Artz Trust will host a free public reading and book signing by poet, essayist, and naturalist Diane Ackerman at the Weinberg Center at 2 p.m. Tickets are not required for this free event. February 9 – State Farm Agency Opportunity Information Session
Join the nation's leading auto and home insurance company as a State Farm Agent and experience personal success running your own agency in your own community. March 10 – Ag Symposium at FCC
Area farmers are invited to explore strategies for keeping family farms and agricultural industries operational and sustainable at a one-day conference hosted by Frederick Community College. “Growing Frederick County Agriculture: Strategies for Economic Viability” will be held in FCC's Classroom/Student Center (H Building) from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Pre-registration is required by March 3. March 25 – Mission Ten-Miler
Help those in need by participating in the Frederick Rescue Mission’s first annual Mission Ten-Miler. The course is a certified ten-mile route, mostly flat, with chipped timing. All runners will receive a finisher medal and swag, and the top male and female finishers in each age group will receive prizes. Click here for info and registration.
April 17 – Economic Symposium
Frederick’s 8th Annual Economic Symposium, presented by Moore Wealth, Inc., will feature a conversation with Ginger O. Brennan, CEBS, as she discusses Behavioral Finance: the study of social, cognitive and emotional factors in understanding the economic decisions of individuals and institutions. She will provide insights into how markets can be impacted by consumers, borrowers and investors rational and irrational behavior. The event, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Weinberg Center for the Arts, is sponsored by the Frederick Chamber, the City of Frederick, PNC Bank, FITCI, and the Downtown Frederick Partnership.

Golden Mile Alliance seeks community involvement
The Golden Mile Alliance has formed four committees: Business Development, Design, Organization and Promotions. Volunteer service on these committees is open to the community, and the Alliance encourages interested residents, businesses and property owners to get involved. The Alliance meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Community Center, and meetings are open to the public. Kathryn Bosze has joined Plamondon Hospitality Partners as a Sales Manager for their Frederick Marriott Hotels.
Brian Duchon, MPA, has joined United Way of Frederick County as Community Impact Director. In this newly created position, Duchon is responsible for the development and execution of strategies related to the long-term community impact goals of the organization, focusing on education, income and health.
New Market Mini Storage is cutting its costs and preparing for the future by installing a 64-kilowatt solar panel array that will meet its energy needs. The system will generate more electricity than the business’ climate-controlled buildings, lights, and electronics consume. Unused electricity will be fed back into the power grid, providing the community with clean energy.
DynPort has completed a Phase 2 clinical trial for its recombinant botulinum vaccine candidate rBV A/B, which was safe and well-tolerated, and elicited a strong immune response. The vaccine is under development as a U.S. Department of Defense biodefense medical countermeasure. Botulinum neurotoxin is identified as a Category A biothreat by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Scientists working at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) originally identified and developed the vaccine.
MacRo, Ltd. recently closed the sale of a commercial building lot off of Hillcrest Drive to the nonprofit organization Frederick Alliance for Youth (FAY). FAY plans to build and operate a community center on the property that will provide much-needed support, encouragement and positive diversions for young people and families who live in the Hillcrest and Waverly areas.
