We are highlighting great new reads for you so buy a book and support Native voices!

This week we are highlighting Here I Am a Writer by Christopher McIlroy.  He's a non-Native teacher who spent a number of years with Arts Reach in Arizona working with Native youth in the Southern part of the state.  This is a chronicle of his work, but really it's more.  He presents the work of several of his students and creates a narrative around his visits to reconnect many years later.  Their poems are authenic and stunning and are an incredible example of the depth our Native youth posess, which can be brought to the world with some exellent guidance and mentorship.  The stories of reunion - sometimes tragic, sometimes funny - are always enlightening and powerful.  But the words of the youth (and now adults) is the most captivating part of this book.  We will be following up with a full review to our newsletter subscribers, so stay tuned!
