Day 27 – Hungary

Date entered by ABWE as a mission field: 1988
Major ABWE ministries: Church planting, leadership training, MK education

Religious liberty was restored to Hungary in 1990, ending more than 40 years of intimidation, discrimination and infiltration by Communist leaders. Hungary is a spiritually needy country, and traditional Catholic Christianity offers many challenges to missionaries.

Budapest is the headquarters for ABWE’s ministries in central and eastern Europe. From the outset, ABWE’s strategy has been to focus on the training of national Christian leaders to promote a national church-planting movement.

Missionaries work closely with Hungarian partners in the work of evangelism and discipleship. A resource and training center is now operating on the outskirts of Budapest, and is being used by ABWE missionaries to prepare workers for the spiritual harvest field of Hungary.

  • Appointed last summer, Chris and Darcy and their family have assisted with children’s ministry at CEEMed regional conferences.
  • They will be making a survey trip regarding serving at International Christian School of Budapest Nov. 19-27.
In addition to the Hungary team, which focuses primarily on church planting and missions ministry in Hungary, we have a regional team that serves the whole Central & Eastern Europe and Mediterranean (CEEMed) Region. Several of the regional team members live and serve in Budapest, where the regional office is located.
