Seniors Match Review
As coach I'm am extremely happy to report that our senior team achieved its second club goal of the season, in defeating the boys from Sunbury on Saturday, & that was for the team to play in the finals. We achieved that by winning the last 6 games of the home & away season to stay there. Rupo proved to be an extremely tough opponent & the 30 point margin at the end, in our favour, did not truly reflect the closeness of the contest. Whilst we were able to hold sway on the scoreboard for the best part of the afternoon, it was only in the latter stages of the final quarter that we were able to draw away.
Early in the fourth quarter the 4 goal lead had been whittled back to 4 points, however the Wellers, primarily through the straight kicking of Caine Hillier (5 goals) were able to put the result beyond doubt. The encounter was played at a frenetic pace, with the ball moving up & down the vast expanses of GBO, much to the enjoyment of the spectators in attendance. Early in the match, Jackson Eade thrilled the crowd with some spectacular high marking attempts, & goal conversions, finishing the afternoon with three great goals. Perhaps his father, Rodney will be able to attend matches more often to provide the spur for him to achieve great heights!!!
Ben Hart was his usual busy self & he combined with Roh Kapoor to continually repel promising Rupo forward forays. It was great to see Jack Ymer & Jordo Eade fit back into the team & make strong contributions to the team effort. A special comment should also be made by our club congratulating David Collins, the Rupertswood Captain on a stellar career playing for their club. We believe that he played his final match for the club on Saturday. A wonderful sportsman, with a great work ethic & playing record. Well done David!
We now look forward to a 1st Semi Final against Mazenod to be played on Sunday 4th September. the boys will enjoy another big week on the track & around the club. We look forward to seeing plenty of players & supporters come down to the club on Thursday night for tea & team selection.

Reserves
On a beautiful sunny day at GBO we were to take on Rupo in our final game of season 2011. With some of our taller options unavailable through injury it was going to be a tough one. The first quarter saw some great play and endeavour from our back line to keep repelling rupo in there fward forays and set up some great attacking passages of play for our forwards. To capitalise on kicking 6,5 was a good return for our efforts. In coming out for the second I felt the boys lacked alot of the pizazz that they had shown in recent weeks but kicking 4.2 for the quarter was not displeasing. Some solid ruck work from both Nick Searles and Dangles really gave us the edge in the third and with forwards converting between both sets of posts and our run and carry game up and about. We never looked like we were going to get beaten going in to the last 8 goals 6 up. Strong performances by our on ball unit in the last and with El Capitan leading the charge with 5, Hinks with 5, Jarod Collins with 3.
We looked like a very polished unit finishing with 40 scoring shots on goal. It was a great team effort to finish our season on gentlemen. As your coach this season we have all ridden the highs and lows of our game. It has been my pleasure to have had the opportunity to lead you each week in to battle - the grumbles the groans the smiles the laughter - that is why we keep coming back. Congratulations on a great year. You are all a very fine bunch of young men. Well done!

Thirds
On the weekend the thirds played their final game for the season against the top side Caulfield. We knew that they would be a good team and I asked the boys to really have a crack at them as we knew they would take the last game before finals easily. At the first break Caulfield led by one goal, it was a great start by the boys and everyone was up and about. Our ball movement was clean and fast and we were tough over the footy, the game did draft away from us and Caulfield ran out eventuate six goal winners. However we knew threw in the towel and it was a positive way to finish the season, all we wanted was for us as a team to put in a good showing against the top side. Which is what we did. At know stage did anyone drop their head and the encouragement for each other was once again evident all day. Our best players on the day came from the midfield, with Sam Flanagan and Matt Woodbridge working well in the ruck and down back when they rested. Daniel Dick again as he did all season was able to extract the ball from tight situations. Luke Smith was awesome out of the centre, and Andrew Hudson had leather poisoning after the game due to having the pill in his hands so much.
This is the last time I'l be heard from for the year and I would like to thank all those who helped out during the year, especially Steve Fitzpatrick who was our goal umpire almost every week. Also I would like to thank the boys who played with me this year for making the year an exciting and rewarding experience.
