Leaders Bust Some Transformation Moves

by Charles Revis, ABCNW Executive Minister

One definition of leadership is simple, “Knowing what needs to be done and then doing it” (Leith Anderson). Good leaders not only discern what must be done they act. Many in leadership positions never lead because they fail to act. They wait for others to move. This is deferring leadership. Good leaders know that their actions will create pushback. Resistance is expected, but they lead anyway.

During a recent gather of ABCNW’s mentor pastors I asked the group to identify the most significant moves they made that set the stage for transformation in their own congregations. The responses were as varied as they were enlightening. I’ve listed them for you to examine.

Perhaps these moves will inspire you to make needed changes in your own church. If you would like more information about any one of these simply send me an email, identify which number and I will be happy to provide you with more details. Here’s the list:

Between Here and There: Transitions with “There” in Mind (Part 2)

by Patricia Duckworth, ABCNW Associate Executive Minister

In part 1 of this article, sent out via the email update a few weeks ago, I pointed out the transitions that will be coming to the churches of our Region. I discussed the need to follow the process for getting from “here” – where we are – to “there” or the next chapter of ministry and outreach with the Good News of Jesus to a lost world. In part 2, I’d like to share with you that each of us has an important part to play “between here and there” – the transition time – and just what those parts are.

So as the transitions come, what should ALL of us in ALL congregations do?

It is significantly important we ALL know there is a process for securing the next pastor for a church. It is also extremely important to remind ourselves that this process works and it has worked for many years with success. We know it works because churches have continued to do ministry and outreach with pastoral leadership.
