Caris is on the move! Read about the exciting ways Caris is engaging the community in 2011.
Angie Weszely, Caris President, was featured in the January 12th edition of ePistle, the weekly communiqué of Evangelicals for Social Action, the group that publishes PRISM magazine. The article, entitled “Changing the Conversation around Unplanned Pregnancies” by Kristyn Komarnicki, shares how Caris is living the Gospel through meeting the emotional and practical needs of women facing unplanned pregnancies.

“Look What God Is Doing, Day 5 - Look What God Is Doing in Sanctity of Life…”. Angie shares how Caris is working for the dignity of both the woman and the child… as we believe Jesus would do.

We owe such a special thank you to the churches who partnered with us for SOHLS 2011 this year! Thank you to one church in particular, LaGrange Bible Church. They showed their commitment to Caris' vision to see followers of Christ work for the dignity and welfare of the woman and the child involved in an unplanned pregnancy by devoting their Sunday to educate and inspire their congregation through Caris! The day started and ended with prayer and included a presentation that highlighted what women really feel when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Later, a former Caris client shared her story and fielded questions. We have found this format to be a great way to engage congregations who have questions about this issue and to discuss them in a positive and unifying way. That evening, they had a Baby Boutique Shower to donate items to women in our support groups. It was wonderful to see both men and women get involved in the day's activities!

If you want to get your church involved with a program similar to LaGrange Bible Church, contact  Terra Vincent and make a positive impact on the issue!

Having a Caris location in the Loop has been a dream and prayer request these past five years. We knew that having a central location was one of the key factors in reaching our faith goal of serving 10,000 women annually by 2015. We had no idea how God would provide, and it has been amazing to walk through this process of seeing him open doors. We will move into our new counseling site and headquarters, at 111 Wabash Avenue in Chicago's Loop, in June.

For me, our new Chicago Loop site is symbolic of all the growth we are seeing at Caris. We are getting more visibility in our marketing, serving more women and children, having more conversations in the community, and engaging more churches. We are seeing God answer specific prayers all the time. At the same time, we face challenges, have needs, and know that there is no way we will reach our faith goals unless God moves.

That’s why the number one thing I want to ask you to consider this month is this: Will you commit to pray with us? God has called us to offer more women hope for their future and the future of their child. He has called us to engage Christians to think about how Christ would address the issues of unplanned pregnancy and abortion if he were here today. And he has called us to offer our community a witness of Christians giving practical, compassionate help in a divisive issue.

Angie Weszely, Caris President
Compelled
        to give...

A young woman came to Caris for confirmation of her pregnancy test. She met with a Caris counselor and after their meeting she decided to come back for an ultrasound. She said that she was amazed at all of the services that Caris' offers free of charge. She was so impacted by her experience with Caris, that she said SHE wanted to make a donation to Caris. This woman does not have great financial means, but she wanted to help us to continue to provide the kind of care she received to others.

True to her word, she came back the next day with her generous gift. We are praising God for how HE is working through the lives and hearts of everyone involved with Caris. His mercy through Caris compelled her to show His provision to Caris.
